The Makalu Base Camp Trek is a remarkable 22-day adventure for trekkers seeking solitude, wilderness and one of Nepal's most pristine high-altitude mountain environments.
From Tumlingtar, the trail crosses forested ridges and Shipton La, enters the upper Barun Valley and reaches Makalu Base Camp at 4,870 metres beneath the immense south face of Mount Makalu.

TREK EXPERIENCE
Wild valleys, Shipton La & Mount Makalu
The journey begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and a drive to Chichila. The trail continues through Num, Seduwa and Tashigaon, the last permanent settlement before entering the high and isolated mountain wilderness.
A steep climb reaches Khongma Danda, followed by an important acclimatization day. The route then crosses Shipton La at 4,220 metres and descends through Dobate before continuing toward Yangri Kharka and Langmale Kharka.
The trail reaches Makalu Base Camp at 4,870 metres, where an exploration day reveals extraordinary views of Makalu, Everest and Lhotse. The return journey retraces the route to Tumlingtar for the flight back to Kathmandu.
