Helambu Cultural Trek

The Helambu Trek is a rewarding Himalayan journey that combines beautiful mountain scenery with the rich culture and traditions of the Hyolmo communities of northern Nepal.

Beginning near Kathmandu, the trail passes through peaceful forests, traditional mountain villages and spectacular Himalayan landscapes. The journey includes Chisapani, Gul Bhanjyang, Melamchi Gaon, Tarke Ghyang and Sermathang before returning to Kathmandu.

TREK EXPERIENCE

Hyolmo culture, mountain villages & Himalayan trails

The journey begins in Kathmandu before heading toward Sundarijal, the gateway to the Helambu trekking region. From here, the trail climbs through beautiful forest landscapes toward Chisapani, where trekkers are rewarded with their first mountain views.

The trail continues through Gul Bhanjyang and onward to Melamchi Gaon, one of the important traditional Hyolmo settlements of the region. Here, travelers can experience the distinctive culture, architecture, hospitality and everyday life of the local community.

After exploring Melamchi Gaon, the route continues toward Tarke Ghyang, a picturesque mountain village known for its monastery and beautiful Himalayan surroundings. The journey then proceeds to Sermathang before descending toward Melamchi Pul Bazaar and returning to Kathmandu.

Spend the day experiencing the cultural character of Melamchi Gaon. Explore the traditional Hyolmo community, visit local Buddhist sites and enjoy the surrounding mountain landscape before continuing higher into Helambu.

Melamchi Gaon to Tarke Ghyang

Follow a scenic trail through forests, traditional villages, mani walls and open mountain landscapes toward Sermathang. The route remains at a moderate elevation while offering beautiful views across the surrounding Himalayan ranges.

Sermathang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar

Descend from Sermathang toward Melamchi Pul Bazaar through terraced hillsides and lower valley landscapes. After completing the final trekking section, continue by road toward Kathmandu.

Return to Kathmandu & Departure

ROUTE Melamchi → Kathmandu

Return to Kathmandu after completing the Helambu journey. Depending on your departure schedule, enjoy some free time in the city before your transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey.
